Witsand - Boat Capsizes

At 06h26 NSRI Witsand volunteer sea rescue duty crew were called out following reports of a boat capsized at ‘The Bar’ (a semi submerged sand bar just off the Breede River Mouth). Two men were reported to be clinging to the upturned hull with neither of the two men wearing life-jackets.

NSRI Witsand volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched their sea rescue craft and responded to the scene where they found a number of private boats in attendance.

Both men, a father and son, from Cape Infanta, were not injured and they were brought to shore. Sea Rescue towed their capsized 5 meter boat to the beach where the boat was recovered.

NSRI urges anyone launching any kind of craft onto water, inland or coastal, to wear their life-jackets while their craft is underway.
