Hospital still searching for meningitis patient

The Mamelodi Hospital said it has not made any breakthrough in the search for the escaped patient infected with meningitis, who fled this week.

Dave Danneth of Phomolong in Pretoria was diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis at the beginning of December.

This strain of meningitis is highly contagious.

He had begun treatment before he ran away from the hospital on Wednesday.

The hospital's Babe Mosuwe said, “The worry is that once you have started the treatment but you didn’t complete it, the bacteria can develop some resistance to the drug, which can become very problematic.”
