Flats burn in Vanderbijlpark
Approximately 6 flats have burned out on the top floor of a 3 storey block of flats on Siemens Street in Vanderbijlpark. According to witnesses and residents of the flats, there had been no electricity in the area for part of the evening, and one of the flats’ residents was making use of candles. The cause of the fire however, remains unknown, and the necessary officials will need to conduct the appropriate investigations.
Fortunately for the residents, the Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark Fire and Rescue teams, as well as ER24 paramedics, arrived quickly at the scene, and they immediately began evacuating the building. All of the residents were able to get to safety and attempts to extinguish the blaze were started.
The flats that were affected were completely burnt out. Most of the resident’s personal possessions could not be salvaged and they would lose everything they had that were in their flats.
Luckily, none of the residents were injured during the fire, only one medic was slightly injured after he had to jump over some rubble and he hurt his ankle.
Thank you to the great teams that worked together to save so many people tonight!
