Weather Observation: Durban and other parts of South Africa (27 November 2011)

Apologies for not updating you sooner!

The storm last night in DBN was a rather large one in that it dumped a lot of water on us.
My neighbour measured 77mm. I was unable to to provide the SAWDIS with realtime updates
as my house was flooded and the phone went for a swim.

I have seen widespread reports of manhole covers been popped and lots of brown pools this morning
giving me an indication that most of the rain fell in a very short space of time.

Obs. Ross Murray, Durban

SAWDIS: Ross sorry to hear about your misfortune and no apology necessary. You had to look after your property and yourself. I trust that you did not have a lot of damage. Thanks also for you regular reports from Durban.

To the public out there, this can happen anytime to you and your family. The time has arrived that we need more weather observers in South Africa that can send real time updates to the SAWDIS for publication. That way we can warn each other if a situation arise. If you observe flash flooding, mudslides, rockfalls it is important to get the message out as quickly as possible to the SAWDIS..

WE NEED TO BE MORE ALERT AND PREPARED WHEN SEVERE WEATHER STRIKES!!
