Kwazulu Natal storm death toll rises

As the day wears on, emergency teams are slowly piecing together the devastation following last night's storm in various parts of the province.

The Cooperative Governance Department has confirmed that a further five lives were lost.

Initially, Newswatch told you about a man who died north of Durban when his Quarry Heights home caved in on him.

The Department says the five fatalities it has learned about are in Umlazi and Clermont.

Several people had to be rescued from their flooded homes in areas including Randles Road in Sydenham.

eThekwini Municipality says up to 10-lives may've been lost - however officials are still confirming the news.

So far, it's been established that Durban's central region's been the worst hit with nearly 20-reports of flooding.

Informal settlements along Quarry Road and Puntans Hill have been the most affected.
