Tsunami - Potential threat to New Zealand Cancellation

Tsunami advisory cancelled:

Sea level gauges on Rauol Island registered wave heights between 0.1 and 0.17m. The NZ Tsunami Experts Panel has convened and advise that there is no threat to New Zealand from this event.

In relation to the clean-up and salvage operation in the Bay of Plenty, it is not anticipated that there will be any adverse effects from this event. Normal beach activities may continue.

Abnormally strong currents may be experienced in some locations in the north of New Zealand. Caution is advised for swimmers, divers and recreational boat users.
