MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Sergeant Bootram and Constable Msebenzi saved the life of an intoxicated young man in KwaNonqaba.

The SAPS members acted swiftly to save the man from being burnt to death in his shack in Vukani Street, Elangeni in KwaNonqaba.

During their normal duties in the area, these two SAPS members were informed of a shack on fire. However, the bystanders did not know whether there was anybody inside.

The members investigated and broke down the door. To their surprise, a young man was on the bed obviously inhaling the smoke. Sgt Bootram removed a burining pot from the stove and threw it outside.

Both police menbers then extinguished the fire inside the house. These young SAPS members went beyond the call of duty and their actions greatly attributed to a community being saved from a disastrous tragedy. It is well known to what an extent a fire can spread in the informal settlements.

Their Shift Commander, Warrant Officer Robertson acknowledged the members bravery and encouraged them to always go the extra mile for the community they serve and protect.
