SA National Severe Weather Warning: 15 October 2011 04h00 SAST

Image: SAWS (Click on image for larger view.)

The severe weather warning charts of the SA Weather Service are once again in shambles this morning.  Some provinces reflect veld fires and severe thunderstorms in green colours while others are in orange. This is once again very confusing as can be seen in the image above and below.  The Eastern Cape image reflect that there are no warnings nor advisories in effect but in the detail section severe thunderstorms are expected.  Now is this a warning or no warning?

  • Current warning:
  • Updated: 15/10/2011 05:57:35
  • No warnings nor advisories in effect
  • Subject: Severe thunderstorms
  • Detail: Valid Saturday 15th October: 1. Severe thunderstorms are expected in the northern and central parts of the Eastern Cape.

Confusion reigns also in respect of  the North West Province and the Northern Cape Province.

This is not the first time this has happened and it now frequently happens.

PLEASE SAWS COULD YOU GET THIS CORRECT IN FUTURE.  THE WELL BEING OF PEOPLE DEPENDS ON THESE WARNINGS AND IF YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE IN SOUTH AFRICA THAT WILL BE ALOUD TO ISSUE WEATHER WARNINGS UNDER THE PROPOSED NEW LEGISLATION THEN AT LEAST  ISSUE CORRECT AND NON CONFUSING SEVERE WEATHER WARNINGS.
