Children killed in toy box - Soweto

Two young children were killed and two others were seriously injured after suffocating while playing in a toy box in a garden at a Soweto residence late last night.

The cause of the incident the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.

Common cause information indicates that the children, all aged between three and four-years-old, were playing with the trunk when they inadvertently trapped themselves within it.

Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the bodies of a boy and girl had been removed from the chest. Both appear to have suffocated and were declared dead at the scene.

The other two were rushed by their parents to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Their condition is unknown.
