Boy (13) electrocuted at Free State school

A thirteen-year-old boy was killed when he was electrocuted at the Kroonstad High School in Kroonstad in the Free State this evening.

The cause of the incident and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.

Common cause information, and information obtained from other pupils, indicates that the boy had been standing in wet grass and had touched a pole with his right hand. He was electrocuted and then fell to the ground.

Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the teen lying in the ground. They were forced to initiate CPR and continued the resuscitation while rapidly transporting him to the Netcare Kroon Hospital.

Sadly he was declared dead shortly after arrival.
