Airport Park structural collapse

Fourteen construction workers were injured, four of whom critically, in a structural collapse at a site in Airport Park, Germiston, this morning.

The cause of the incident and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of an internal and Department of Labour investigation.

Common cause information indicates that the structure under construction collapsed, injuring fourteen workers, four of whom critically so.

Netcare911 Paramedics received and emergency call from the scene and paramedics responded. They arrived to find the injured lying near the structure.

All were treated and stabilised at the scene. The critically injured were transported to both the Netcare Milpark and the Netcare Union Hospital for further urgent care.

The remainder of the injured were transported by ambulance to the Netcare Union Hospital.
