Spring tide traps 2 fishermen at Wilderness

WILDERNESS NEWS - The Wilderness NSRI crew was activated yesterday, Sunday, September 11, following reports of two fishermen trapped on Flat Rock between Wilderness and Kleinkrans.

The fishermen were cut off from the mainland by the Spring high tide and required assistance to get back to mainland.

"Our NSRI volunteer duty crew launched our 'Discovery' rescue runner and our duty crew responded to the scene in our sea rescue 4x4 rescue vehicle," explains Hennie Niehaus, NSRI Wilderness station commander.

"On arrival at the scene, a rope and pulley system was rigged with ropes and both men, Ricardo Camper (36) and Reginald Tamboer (32), both from George, were waded across from Flat Rock to mainland by our NSRI rescue swimmers. Once safely ashore, the two men required no further assistance."
