FLASH FLOOD WARNING: MOSSEL BAY / KLEIN BRAK RIVER / GROOT BRAK RIVER (ISSUE 2)



FLASH FLOOD WARNING STATEMENT

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS CURRENTLY IN EFFECT AND REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 06H00 SAST 24 AUGUST 2011

MOSSEL BAY, KLEIN BRAK RIVER AND GROOT BRAK RIVER

AT 18H00 PM TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS AND PUBLIC REPORTED FLOODING IN PARTS OF MOSSEL BAY, KLEIN BRAK RIVER AND GROOT BRAK RIVER.  THERE ARE NO KNOWN WATER RESCUES IN EFFECT. EMERGENCY CREWS ARE CURRENTLY ATTENDING TO VARIOUS FLOODED ROADS IN AND AROUND MOSSEL BAY, KLEIN BRAK AND GROOT BRAK RIVER. . NUMEROUS PAVED AND GRAVEL ROADS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO BE UNDER WATER. MEASURED STORM TOTAL PRECIPITATION 93MM OF RAINFALL SINCE 11H30 UP TO 18H00 SAST. RAINFALL IS ONGOING. ANY ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE TO AGGRAVATE THE FLOODING SITUATION.

LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE...
MOSSEL BAY, KLEIN BRAK RIVER AND GROOT BRAK RIVER

RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF CREEKS, RIVERS AND STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS, RIVERS AND STREAMS AND LOW LYING AREAS ARE LIKELY TO CONTINUE OR QUICKLY BEGIN TO FLASH FLOOD. DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. IF YOU ARE IN THE WARNING AREA MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IF YOU OBSERVE THE RISE IN WATERLEVELS. RESIDENTS ALONG STREAMS, RIVERS AND CREEKS SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY.
