Snowfall expected over Drakensberg, Eastern Cape

The South African Weather Service said light snowfall is expected over the Drakensberg and Eastern Cape later on Thursday.

According to the service, Van Reenen's Pass in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands will not be affected by the weather. Earlier this week, hundreds of commuters were stranded in traffic following heavy snowfalls in the area.

Forecaster Mark Todd said, “These snowfalls are not expected to extend to the neighbouring high ground of KwaZulu-Natal.”

Meanwhile, the N3 Toll Concession has advised motorists travelling on the highway in the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal to take additional blankets, food and water with them, in the event of extreme weather conditions.

The toll concession's Con Roux said the traffic backlog has now cleared but warned motorists that traffic volumes will increase during the day.
