No word on SA victims in DRC crash

Johannesburg - There was no word yet on whether any South Africans were killed in a planecrash in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the international relations department said on Saturday.

"We are still awaiting a report from our mission in that country," said spokesperson Clayson Monyela.

A plane with 112 people on board crashed due to bad weather in eastern DRC on Friday, reported the French news agency, AFP.

The plane was operated by Hewa Bora Airways and reportedly crashed at Kisangani airport in the northeast of the country.

It was on regular commercial route from Kinshasa to Kisangani and Goma when it was hit by the storm as it approached the airport, the report said. On Saturday, AFP reported that the death toll in the planecrash stood at 74.
