Mop up after days of bad weather in Kwazulu Natal

Durban - Mopping up operations began on Thursday morning after three days of unusually bad weather in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Mopping-up operations will take off in full swing today,” said provincial co-operative governance spokesperson, Mthatheni Mabaso.

He said MEC Nomusa Dube would reveal on Thursday the extent of the damage caused by the snow, frost and rain.

“She will later today give an indication as to what extent the damage has dented the province’s economy, including the effects of the disruptions to transport as a result of the heavy snowfalls,” he said.

Snowfalls closed major KwaZulu-Natal roads, resulting in possible massive economic loss.

Dube would also visit families of people affected by the bad weather, Mabaso said.

“She will visit the family of the storm victim who died when a roof collapsed in Kennedy Road yesterday. She will also visit the displaced families in Stanger to provide for food and other needs.”
