Man feared drowned on Kwazulu Natal south coast

Johannesburg - A man was feared to have drowned on Friday at Ramsgate Beach on the south coast in Kwa-Zulu Natal, sea rescue workers said.

National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Mark Harlen said it received a call at midnight to help search for a 22-year-old man who had gone missing at sea.

He said sea conditions were too rough to launch sea rescue operations immediately.

Rescue workers conducted shore patrols during the night and a search operation at sea started at 10:00 on Friday.

Three men on holiday from Pretoria went for a midnight swim when the one went missing.

Harlen said the two who got out of the water without assistance, raised the alarm.
