Health dept. concerned by yellow fever vaccine shortage

The Health Department has urged people planning to travel overseas to postpone their trips following reports of a shortage in yellow fever vaccines.

Suppliers said the shortage was caused by a high demand in recent months.

The department's Frew Benson said the situation will only improve in August.

“Travel clinics in South Africa have a shortage of yellow fever vaccines and that relates to the management of vaccines," he said. "The demand exceeded the supply and that caused the shortage.”
