Photo: AvcomThe pilot and passenger of a Robinson R44 helicopter died when they crashed between Ermelo and Piet Retief yesterday evening in thick fog at approx 19h30. The helicopter transported a couple to the matric farewell and crashed on the return flight after the couple was off-loaded. A search and rescue party was launched soon after the helicopter was reported missing. Rescuers thought that the helicopter crashed in one of the plantations in the area but two farm workers later discovered the wreck and bodies in a mielie field. The Civil Aviation Authority is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
